Crop sensor
A sub-district risk map that blends seasonal outlook, observed drought and crop exposure into one Crop Risk Score (0–100).

AgRISE, Agricultural Remote Sensing-based Insurance for Security and Equity, turns IWMI's ENSO Outlook climate intelligence into risk scores and claim evidence for insurers, and sends advice to farmers through SukhaRakshak AI.
How it works
Two IWMI platforms already in use, joined by AgRISE so that insurers and farmers act on the same evidence.
Seasonal outlooks, anticipatory-action triggers and satellite drought indicators through one API.
enso.iwmi.orgScores every insurance unit, ranks the portfolio, maps claim pathways and builds the evidence pack.
Insurers & field teamsTurns the same signals into drought advice farmers can act on, on their phone, in their language.
FarmersAgRISE
Built for PMFBY insurers at state, district and taluk level. Every number shows its source and date, and nothing pretends to be a payout formula.
A sub-district risk map that blends seasonal outlook, observed drought and crop exposure into one Crop Risk Score (0–100).
Risk map →Sum insured by state and crop, how much sits at Moderate risk or worse, and which districts are already in an anticipatory-action phase.
Portfolio outlook →A twice-weekly snapshot turned into a printable Rabi bulletin: key messages per state, main crop and the units to watch.
Bulletin →Five PMFBY pathways with the signals that matter, plus an evidence pack per unit: every indicator, source, date and why it counts.
Claims pathways →Design RWBCIS-style rainfall triggers and test them against 25 years of real CHIRPS hindcast before a rupee is committed.
Index lab →Put crop-cutting experiments where loss is most likely, so field effort follows the risk, not a flat quota.
Coming nextFive risk levels
Every insurance unit gets one level. A forecast alone can never push a unit past Moderate; observed stress on the ground has to confirm it.
Rain on track, crop healthy
Rain falling short, watch closely
Dry spell, crop showing stress
Drought confirmed, losses likely
Crop failure, act now
Where the data comes from
ENSO Outlook tracks El Niño and La Niña and what they mean for rainfall, drought and floods. It runs an anticipatory-action engine that moves each district through Ready → Set → Go, and serves the satellite indicators behind it through an open API.
AgRISE calls that API twice a week: one call for the trigger state of all 594 Indian districts, then Earth Engine point calls for rainfall, vegetation and dry spells in every sub-district.

Sukha means drought; rakshak means protector. SukhaRakshak is IWMI's AI drought assistant. Farmers and field teams ask a question and get advice grounded in forecasts, satellite data and official drought manuals.
When AgRISE flags a taluk, SukhaRakshak carries that warning to the farmers there as practical advice. The insurer gets time to plan; the farmer gets time to act.
